Samuel Eto’o Banned from Cameroon Football Matches for Six Months by FIFA
Samuel Eto’o, one of the greatest footballers to ever come out of Africa and now the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), has been banned from attending Cameroon’s national team matches for six months. The ban comes after he was found to have violated FIFA’s disciplinary regulations, according to an announcement made by the governing body on Monday.
Eto’o, who’s been in charge of Fecafoot since 2021, won’t be allowed to attend any of Cameroon’s men’s or women’s football games, across all age groups, for the next half year. This is a significant blow, not just for Eto’o himself but for the national football community as well, given his status and influence.
The situation stems from an incident during the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup round-of-16 match between Brazil and Cameroon, which took place on September 11, 2024, in Bogota, Colombia. While FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee didn’t provide too many details, they did say that Eto’o’s behaviour was deemed “offensive” and that he violated the principles of fair play, with some misconduct involving match officials.
This isn’t the first time Eto’o has found himself in hot water recently. Less than three months ago, he was fined by CAF (Confederation of African Football) after being involved in an inquiry into alleged breaches of ethical and integrity rules.
